The inaugural edition of the Siga Art Festival concluded on the night of March 21, 2026, with a vibrant closing concert held at the University of Rwanda’s Huye campus stadium in Huye. The three-day cultural event brought together artists, performers, and art enthusiasts in a celebration of creativity, heritage, and community.
Launched on March 19, 2026, the festival began with a caravan of artists and participants traveling along the Kigali–Butare road. The journey included educational stops at historical sites, offering attendees an opportunity to engage with Rwanda’s cultural heritage. Upon arrival in Huye, the delegation was welcomed by local authorities led by the district mayor, alongside other officials who hosted interactions with the visiting youth and artists.
The second day of the festival, held on March 20, featured a commemorative walk dubbed “Intambwe ya Nyirarumaga.” The initiative aimed to honor the legacy of women and recognize their contributions to art, culture, and national development, in line with the global observance of Women’s Month in March.
The festival reached its peak on the third day with a star-studded concert that drew a large audience. Performers included renowned Rwandan artists such as Massamba Intore, Riderman, Juno Kizigenza, Mani Martin, Christopher, Kevin Kade, Bwiza, comedian Rusine Patrick, and Jules Sentore, among others.
Earlier in the day, heavy rainfall across Huye had cast doubt on whether the final concert would proceed as planned. However, as the skies cleared later in the evening, crowds turned out in large numbers, filling the venue and celebrating alongside the performers.
Speaking after the event, festival founder Junior Rumaga described the experience as extraordinary. He expressed satisfaction with the turnout and organization, noting that the festival exceeded his expectations despite the fatigue associated with organizing such a large-scale event.
Rumaga also extended gratitude to fellow artists, the Huye District leadership for hosting the festival, sponsors for their support, and the Rwanda National Police for ensuring security throughout the event.
