Google CEO Sundar Pichai warns against blind trust in artificial intelligence

Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai has cautioned the global community against relying blindly on artificial intelligence, despite its growing influence in modern work and innovation.

Speaking in an interview with the BBC, Pichai noted that although today’s world embraces AI for fast and efficient task execution, people should continue to prioritize traditional research methods using diverse tools instead of depending solely on AI systems.

“AI can be extremely helpful when you want to write clearly and effectively,” he said. “But users must learn to apply it in contexts they fully understand, and avoid trusting everything AI tells them without verification.”

Pichai emphasized that even with recent advancements, AI systems remain prone to errors. He cited that current models can still generate inaccurate information, especially when not properly guided.

Google, which operates the Gemini AI model, says it plans to release Gemini 3.0 by the end of 2025. Launched in 2023, Gemini has faced criticism over inaccuracies, including misrepresenting well-known historical figures when users requested photos or descriptions—such as popes or former leaders of Russia and the United States.

In Rwanda, popular AI tools currently in use include ChatGPT, Grok, Gemini, and other emerging platforms.

Globally, major technology companies are investing heavily in AI development, with annual spending exceeding $400 billion as the race for more powerful and reliable systems intensifies.
