Mozambique: Rwandan Security Forces mark Kwibuka32
Rwanda Security Forces (RSF) in Cabo Delgado, Mozambique on Tuesday, April 7, marked the 32nd commemoration of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi (Kwibuka32), in an event attended by Mozambican security officers, government officials and TotalEnergies Group representatives.

The commemoration held in Mocímboa da Praia District brought together senior officials from both countries, including Deputy Army Commander of the Mozambican Armed Forces (FADM), Brig Gen Tomás Mponha, representatives from TotalEnergies Group, and leaders from various religious faiths based in the district.
Addressing participants, the RSF Joint Task Force Commander, Brig Gen CM Mujuni, underscored the importance of remembrance as a way to prevent the recurrence of Genocide and similar atrocities.
He noted that the Genocide against the Tutsi was rooted in divisive ideologies influenced by colonial history and poor leadership in post-colonial Rwanda, which culminated in the loss of more than one million lives in 100 days, while the international community watched.
Mujuni reaffirmed Rwanda’s continued commitment to unity, peace, and ensuring that such atrocities never happen again, highlighting the role of the Rwanda Patriotic Army (RPA) in stopping the Genocide and saving lives.
Had it not been RPA's intervention, he said, even those who survived would have perished.
On behalf of the Mozambican delegation, Brig Gen Tomás Mponha said Rwanda’s history, particularly the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, provides important lessons for Mozambique and the wider world.
He commended the efforts that ended the Genocide and acknowledged the contribution of Rwanda Security Force in supporting operations against terrorism in Cabo Delgado Province.
The ceremony concluded with participants listening to a televised message of remembrance, solidarity, and a shared commitment to peace and stability delivered by President Paul Kagame on Tuesday as he opened the 32nd commemoration period.
