Rwanda Begins Plans to Evacuate Citizens from UAE and Bahrain
The government of Rwanda has announced plans to repatriate its citizens currently residing in United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, working in coordination with the national carrier RwandAir.
The development was confirmed by the Embassy of Rwanda in Abu Dhabi in a statement released on Friday, March 6, 2026. The embassy urged Rwandan nationals living in the two Gulf countries to continue following local security guidelines issued by authorities and to rely on trusted communication channels for updates.
According to the statement, diplomatic officials are actively exploring arrangements to organize evacuation flights for citizens who wish to return home.
“The embassy also informs the public that through collaboration with RwandAir and other relevant institutions, preparations are underway to organize flights to repatriate people. All Rwandans wishing to return are requested to register with the embassy as soon as possible,” the statement said.
The move comes amid escalating tensions in the Gulf region after Iran launched a series of missile strikes targeting locations in the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain. The attacks are reportedly part of a retaliatory response to military strikes carried out by the United States and Israel.
Figures cited by Al Jazeera indicate that at least 1,332 people have been killed since the escalation began. Among the victims are three citizens of the United Arab Emirates and one from Bahrain.
Despite the deteriorating security situation, the Embassy of Rwanda in Abu Dhabi stated that, as of now, no Rwandan nationals have been reported harmed in the conflict.
