RURA Announces New Public Transport Fares Following Fuel Price Hike in Rwanda

The Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Authority (RURA) has announced revised fares for public transport services across the country, with the new pricing set to take effect on Monday, April 6, 2026.

According to the updated tariff structure, passengers in Kigali will now pay 59.28 Rwandan francs per kilometer, while those traveling in the provinces will pay 41.58 Rwandan francs per kilometer.

RURA stated that the adjustment was necessary due to the recent increase in fuel prices, which directly affects transportation costs nationwide.

The new fuel prices, which came into effect on Saturday, April 4, 2026 at 6:00 a.m., show that petrol is now selling at 2,303 Rwandan francs per liter, while diesel is priced at 2,205 Rwandan francs per liter.

Authorities noted that the fare revision aims to maintain sustainability in the public transport sector while responding to fluctuating global energy prices that impact domestic fuel costs.

Below is the list of new transport fares for all intercity and interdistrict routes.
