Prince Kid may soon be transferred to Rwanda after U.S. arrest
Former Miss Rwanda organizer Ishimwe Dieudonné, widely known as Prince Kid, may soon be extradited to Rwanda after being arrested in the United States, according to Rwanda’s National Public Prosecution Authority (NPPA).
The development was confirmed by the Prosecutor General of Rwanda, Angélique Habyarimana, during a press conference held on Monday, February 9, 2026. She said Rwandan authorities are aware of Ishimwe’s arrest and have initiated the necessary legal procedures to have him returned to the country.
“Ishimwe Dieudonné was definitively convicted of rape. It was later established that he is in the United States. As is normally done when the whereabouts of a convicted person are known, the required arrest documents were issued,” Habyarimana told journalists during a joint briefing involving institutions from Rwanda’s justice sector.
Ishimwe, 38, was arrested in Texas on March 3, 2025. He had fled Rwanda after the High Court in Kigali convicted him in October 2023 on rape-related charges connected to his time as head of the Miss Rwanda beauty pageant organization.
He left the country before beginning to serve a five-year prison sentence handed down by the court.
Rwandan authorities say ongoing cooperation between Rwanda and the United States will determine the next steps in the extradition process, which could lead to Ishimwe being returned to Rwanda to serve his sentence.
