DRC Authorities Block Ugandan Military Entry into Mahagi

Local authorities in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo have tightened border control measures in Mahagi Territory, prohibiting Uganda People's Defence Force troops and their military equipment from entering the area without prior authorization.

The directive was issued by the territorial administrator of Mahagi, Jacques Disanoa Lalua, who publicly ordered that Ugandan forces be denied entry through two key border crossing points—Anzinda Border Post and Karombo Border Post.

According to instructions released on March 4, the two border posts are now subject to stricter controls. Under the new measures, no Ugandan troops or military hardware will be permitted to pass through the crossings unless they receive explicit authorization from provincial authorities.

Local officials say the decision is aimed at strengthening oversight of cross-border movements and preventing unauthorized military activities in the region. Several Congolese media outlets report that authorities want to ensure tighter regulation of foreign troop presence along the frontier.

The directive follows earlier instructions issued by the military governor of Ituri Province, who oversees both provincial administration and ongoing military operations in the conflict-affected region.

To enforce the order, multiple security agencies have been deployed to the border crossings. These include Direction Générale de Migration, the Agence Nationale de Renseignements, border control services, and the border police.
