Walikale: AFC/M23 positions in Rusamambu targeted by FARDC airstrikes

The positions of the AFC/M23 rebels in Rusamambu in the Ikobo group in the Walikale territory of North Kivu were targeted by drone airstrikes by the FARDC this Friday, May 23.

According to local sources, the drone first circled in the air over the region before dropping bombs on rebel positions. These sources reported that the loud explosions startled the population, plunging them into a state of complete fear.

The toll from this bombing is not yet known, as no one has access to the rebel positions targeted by the strikes. However, plumes of smoke were visible in the air above Rusamambu after the strikes, according to local sources.

This information has been confirmed by traditional authorities and security sources in Walikale, without providing further details. A fragile calm prevails in Rusamambu this Saturday.

This situation arises while a large part of the civilian population has fled the area to escape armed violence. Many families have taken refuge in Kanyabayonga, Kirumba, Miriki, and Luofu in the Lubero territory, where they feel safe.
