Rwanda Football Legend Haruna Niyonzima Conducts CECAFA Kagame Cup 2026 Draw

APR FC and Rayon Sports have discovered their group-stage opponents for the 2026 CECAFA Kagame Cup following the official draw held on Friday, July 10, at Amahoro Stadium in Kigali.

The tournament draw, organized by the Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA), was conducted by former Rwanda international Haruna Niyonzima, who represented three of the participating clubs during his playing career: APR FC, Rayon Sports, and Tanzania's Simba SC.

APR FC were drawn into Group A alongside Uganda's Vipers SC, Kenya's Gor Mahia, and Djibouti's FC Garde Républicaine.

Rayon Sports, meanwhile, will compete in Group C, where they face Sudanese giants Al Hilal SC, who currently compete in the Rwanda Premier League, Kenya's Tusker FC, and Zanzibar's KVZ SC.

Group B features Tanzanian clubs Singida Big Stars and Simba SC, South Sudan's Jamus FC, and Mogadishu City of Somalia.

Under the tournament format, the winner of each of the three groups, along with the best-performing runner-up, will advance directly to the semi-finals. The victorious teams will compete for the championship, while the losing semi-finalists will contest the third-place playoff.

The 2026 CECAFA Kagame Cup will be played from July 24 to August 7, with matches hosted at Amahoro Stadium and Kigali Pelé Stadium in Kigali.

Simba SC are the tournament's most successful club with six titles, followed by Gor Mahia and APR FC with three championships each. Tusker FC have won the competition twice, while Singida Big Stars and Rayon Sports have each lifted the trophy once.
