The prosecutor is demanding the transfer of Félicien Kabuga to Kigali

The prosecutor requested the provisional transfer of Félicien Kabuga to Rwanda. The latter, who is still detained in The Hague, is accused of genocide against the Tutsis in 1994 and crimes against humanity before the UN Mechanism in charge of closing the latest cases of the international tribunal for Rwanda.

In August 2023, the tribunal found him unfit to stand trial and ordered his release. After two years, the prosecutor proposes his return to Kigali.

According to RFI, his lawyer tried to get the approval of a European country to host him. Some of his children reside in Belgium, France and the United Kingdom. But even in France where he was arrested in May 2020, after 26 years of riding, he did not accept it.

The businessman left Rwanda in 1994, en plein genocide et n'y est pas revenu. We will have to wait again to know if the judges will offer him such a return ticket. They will have a new hearing on September 25, in an empty court today. In New York, the UN insists on accelerating the final closure of the affair.

For Philibert Gakwenzire, president of the association of survivors of the genocide against the Tutsi, IBUKA, this demand is a logical consequence. "S'il n'est pas accuillei dans d'autres countries où il voulu se rendre, il n'a quà être accuillei dans son natal", he declared.
