Pyramids star striker Fiston Kalala Mayele believes his team’s mission for a ticket to the second round of the CAF Champions League was half accomplished after Wednesday’s victory against APR FC in Kigali.

Mayele scored both goals in the 50th and 86th minutes as Pyramids beat APR FC 2-0 in the first leg of the CAF Champions League preliminary first round at Kigali Pele Stadium.

“It is always good to score as a striker but this result should be attributed to all players. I am happy to score and I am looking forward to scoring again in return match,” the Congolese striker said.

The return match is in Cairo on Sunday, October 8.

“This is good step for us but it is not over yet because we can’t underrate APR. We have to give it all even in second leg at home. We know winning away always helps to finish the job at home and we are happy to do it,” the 31-year-old added.

Pyramids have always been a nightmare for APR FC’s Champions League dreams. They remain unbeaten in their last five matches against the Rwandan champions, winning three times and drawing twice.

The second leg will take place on Sunday, October 8. The winner of the tie will face Insurance of Ethiopia.

Pyramids FC are CAF Champions League reigning champions, having lifted their first-ever continental trophy last season with a victory over South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns.

They also claimed the FIFA African-Asian-Pacific Cup, defeating Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ahli 3-1 in a match that saw Mayele net a hat-trick.
