Lt. Gen. Gasita to lead FARDC in Rugezi-Minembwe recapture

Reports reaching us indicate that Lt. General Gasita has arrived in Maniema, where he was deployed to lead military operations aimed at regaining control of the Rugezi and Minembwe regions, which have long been held by rebel forces.
This senior commander of the FARDC (Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo) is known for his deep familiarity with the Uvira region—where he is reportedly originally from—which gives him a strategic advantage in leading what is considered a crucial mission to restore peace in eastern DRC.
Sources indicate that the operation to retake Rugezi and Minembwe is being carried out through joint efforts by three parties: FARDC, Burundian forces, and the Wazalendo militia, in a bid to eliminate armed groups operating in those areas.
Some security officials say that intelligence reports continue to reveal strong collaboration among these armed groups in Uvira and its surrounding areas, which has necessitated the appointment of strong and experienced leadership to confront the situation effectively.
Lt. General Gasita is widely regarded as a skilled and experienced military officer, particularly in the southern Kivu region and the mountainous areas of Minembwe, and is said to have been chosen for this mission because of his expertise and knowledge of the terrain.
