Three soldiers killed by colleague in Kisangani Airport shooting

On Saturday morning, July 12, 2025, a tragic shooting occurred at Bangboka International Airport in Kisangani, Democratic Republic of Congo, when a soldier from a special forces unit opened fire on his colleagues while on duty.

According to an officer who spoke to ACTUALITE.CD, three soldiers were killed on the spot, while another was critically injured. The shooter later took his own life after committing the attack.

“The soldier had shown clear signs of mental instability. As a precaution, his commander ordered his arrest. When he was detained, he pretended to ask for permission to go to the toilet,” the officer explained. “He then shot the post commander who approached him, killing him instantly. He also shot another soldier nearby, who died immediately.”

The officer added that the attacker also shot the platoon commander, who sustained severe injuries and is currently receiving treatment at the military hospital.

Despite the incident, operations at Bangboka International Airport continued as normal.
