Rwanda to Host Africa MMA Semi-Finals for the First Time

or the first time in history, Rwanda will host continental-level mixed martial arts competitions as the Professional Fighters League (PFL) Africa semi-finals take place at the BK Arena on October 18, 2025.

The Global Association of Mixed Martial Arts (GAMMA) announced that Rwanda has been selected to stage this crucial stage of the tournament, which brings together Africa’s top fighters.

The competition began in South Africa, with qualifiers held in Cape Town and Johannesburg. Four fighters secured their spots in the semi-finals and will battle it out in Kigali for a place in the grand finale.

Two high-profile bouts are scheduled:

  • Patrick Ocheme (Nigeria) vs Abdul Razac Sankara (Burkina Faso)

  • Nkosi Ndebele (South Africa) vs Simbarashe Hokonya (Zimbabwe)

This marks Rwanda’s debut as a host of a major continental MMA event, making it the first East African nation to welcome such a tournament.

The Professional Fighters League organizers confirmed that ticket details will be released soon, with sales to be managed through SuperSport and Canal+.

Winners in Kigali will advance to the finals, which will be held in Benin later this year.
