Mugisha Bonheur set to join Al Masry in $450,000 deal

Rwandan defensive midfielder Mugisha Bonheur is on the verge of completing a high-profile move to Al Masry Sporting Club of Egypt in a transfer deal reportedly worth $450,000.

Bonheur, who currently plays for Stade Tunisien, a top-flight club in Tunisia, has emerged as one of the most promising Rwandan midfielders in recent years. Known for his composure, ball-winning ability, and occasional goal-scoring flair, the 25-year-old caught the attention of scouts and clubs across North Africa following an impressive 2024/25 season.

During the most recent Tunisian league campaign, Bonheur scored five goals and played a pivotal role in guiding Stade Tunisien to the final of the Super Cup, contributing one of the goals in the semi-final against US Monastir. His consistent performances, combined with his physical presence and technical skill, have elevated his market value and regional reputation.

According to sources close to the deal, Bonheur has already undergone a successful medical, and his transfer will be finalized after the Super Cup final between Stade Tunisien and Espérance Sportive de Tunis, scheduled for Sunday, August 3, 2025.

His next destination, Al Masry, is one of Egypt’s historic and competitive clubs. Founded on March 18, 1920, the club plays its home games at the Suez Stadium, which has a capacity of 27,000 spectators. Al Masry finished fourth in the Egyptian Premier League last season, securing 42 points, which earned them a spot in the upcoming CAF Confederation Cup.

Bonheur’s move to Al Masry marks another step in a steadily rising career that began in Rwanda. He emerged from Heroes FC’s youth ranks, before making senior appearances for Mukura Victory Sports and later APR FC, one of Rwanda’s most successful clubs. His talent eventually took him abroad, starting with Al Ahli Tripoli in Libya, followed by a stint with AS Marsa in Tunisia, and finally to Stade Tunisien, where he solidified his reputation.

If the transfer is completed as expected, Bonheur will become one of the few Rwandan footballers to sign with a top-tier Egyptian club, a move that is seen as a significant milestone both for the player and Rwandan football as a whole. Football analysts in Kigali have praised the move as a reflection of growing international interest in Rwandan talent, especially in the North African and Middle Eastern football markets.

The deal, valued at nearly half a million US dollars, is also notable for its financial scale. While African players frequently transfer between clubs on the continent, such valuations remain relatively rare for Rwandan athletes.

Bonheur will be expected to bolster Al Masry’s midfield ahead of a busy season that includes domestic challenges and continental fixtures in the CAF Confederation Cup. Should he adapt quickly to the pace and physicality of Egyptian football, he may very well establish himself as a cornerstone of the club’s ambitions.

The Rwandan football community will be closely watching Bonheur’s progress in Egypt, with hopes that his success may open more doors for other homegrown talents to shine on bigger African stages.
