M23 Rebels Recapture Luhago After Heavy Clashes in South Kivu
Reports from South Kivu Province, in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), indicate that M23 rebels have retaken control of Luhago, following intense fighting on Saturday afternoon.
According to local sources cited by Tazama RDC, M23 launched coordinated attacks on several positions held by Wazalendo militias in the Luhago groupement, located in Nindja chiefdom, within the Kabare territory.
The rebels reportedly seized the villages of Bwegerera, Irega, and Katsoba, thereby regaining full control of the Luhago area, which they had lost a week earlier.
Militias allied with the Congolese army (FARDC) and the Wazalendo coalition reportedly retreated toward Mashango after being overpowered by M23 forces.
