Heavy clashes erupt between Wazalendo and AFC/M23 in Masisi Territory

Masisi Territory in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo witnessed renewed fighting on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, as Wazalendo militia fighters clashed with AFC/M23 rebels in the locality of Biguri, near Kalengera in Bashali Chiefdom.

Local sources say the confrontation began early in the morning when Wazalendo fighters launched an attack on AFC/M23 positions along the Kirumbu axis at around 8 a.m. The fighting involved both small arms and heavy weapons, causing panic among residents and disrupting farming activities in the area.

According to reports, civilians working in nearby fields were forced to suspend their agricultural activities as the gunfire intensified.

“Fighting took place in the fields from the morning. Farming activities stopped, but the situation later improved. It had been a long time since Wazalendo fighters reached this area. Calm returned around midday,” a resident told the outlet.

Sources indicate that by the afternoon, the situation had stabilized, with AFC/M23 reinforcing its positions in Kalengera and surrounding areas to secure the zone against further attacks.
