Charlie Kirk assassination suspect under special watch as investigators seek motive

The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has revealed that it has strong evidence linking Tyler Robinson, 22, to the assassination of conservative political activist Charlie Kirk during an event at Utah Valley University last week.
FBI Director Kash Patel told reporters on Monday that DNA evidence recovered from a cloth wrapping a rifle used in the attack matched Robinson. Investigators also discovered a handwritten note at Robinson’s residence that explicitly mentioned his intention to “shoot Kirk” due to sharp political disagreements.
Kirk, founder of the conservative youth organization Turning Point USA, was fatally shot in the neck on September 10 while addressing students as part of a campus speaking tour. Authorities later recovered a hunting rifle in a nearby wooded area, believed to have been the murder weapon.
Patel added that although Robinson attempted to destroy the note, forensic teams had already photographed and analyzed it before its destruction.
Family members told investigators that Robinson had increasingly expressed radical left-wing views. Bullets found near the recovered weapon were inscribed with the word “antifascist,” further fueling suspicions about his political motivations.
The FBI said Robinson remains the prime suspect in the high-profile killing, which has sent shockwaves across America’s already polarized political landscape. The investigation is ongoing, with federal prosecutors expected to announce formal charges in the coming days.
