Spain’s Paula Ostiz bags gold medal in women junior road race

Spanish rider, Paula Ostiz dominated under-19 women's race at the 2025 UCI World Championships after an impeccable performance and a mastermind final sprint against a group of five riders to grab gold medal for Spain in Kigali on Saturday, September 27.
The 18-year-old won the title after clocking two hours, nine minutes and 19 seconds.
Ostiz showed power in the last meters of the sprint to Kigali Convention Centre, to grab second medal on her name in the championships after the silver in the time trial.
She beat Italy's Chantal Pegolo who finished second and Switzerland's Anja Grossmann who finished third while Canada's Sidney Swierenga did not win a medal despite having the same times as the three athletes.
In 2024, Ostiz won the second place medal in the women's race held in Zurich.
Meanwhile, Yvonne Masengesho and Liliane Uwiringiyimana became the first Rwandan women to finish the U19 World Cycling Championships. Masengesho finished 48th and Uwiringiyimana came in the 49th, both 12 minutes and 20 seconds behind Ostiz.
