Local basketball governing body, FERWABA, has designated RSSB Tigers Basketball Club to represent Rwanda in Season 6 of the Basketball Africa League (BAL).

The federation announced the development on Thursday, March 12, following APR’s decision to “step aside from the competition.”

According to FERWABA, Tigers earned the opportunity to replace APR at the continental club showpiece after an impressive domestic campaign, winning both the 2025 Rwanda Cup and the 2026 Super Cup.

The federation said the club’s recent performances demonstrated their “competitive excellence and readiness to compete at the continental level.”

Although the decision was made on a short notice, FERWABA reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the team as it prepares for its debut appearance in the competition.

Coached by Henry Mwinuka, Tigers will begin their BAL campaign in the Kalahari Conference, scheduled to take place at SunBet Arena in Pretoria, South Africa, from March 27 through April 5.

FERWABA also called on fans and stakeholders to rally behind the team as it represents Rwanda on the continental stage.

The sixth season of the BAL will feature 12 clubs from 12 African countries, competing in a total of 42 games across two conferences—Kalahari and Sahara—before the playoffs.

The top eight teams from the conferences will advance to the playoffs and finals, which will be held at BK Arena in Kigali from May 22 to 31.
