Masisi: precarious calm in areas near Nyabiondo after clashes between AFC/M23 rebels and the wazalendo in Kinyumba

An apparent calm is observed this Wednesday, December 3 in Nyabiondo in the territory of Masisi in North Kivu in the aftermath of the clashes that pitted the rebels of the AFC/M23 against the wazalendo in Kinyumba, about 10 kilometers of Nyabiondo on the road axis Nyabiondo-Pinga.

The socio-economic activities paralyzed the day before have gradually resumed. Shops have reopened, money transfer houses through mobile money services are also operational. Some traders in Nyabiondo even went to the Mungazi market on Wednesday morning.

The traffic between Masisi and Kashebere via Nyabiondo has also resumed. But the Nyabiondo-Pinga axis remains closed following the volatile security situation.

AFC/M23 rebels on Tuesday attacked the positions of the wazalendo in Kinyumba in an attempt to regain control. They faced resistance from the wazalendo who pushed them back to Nyabiondo.

In these clashes, FARDC used its aircraft to bomb the position of the Bususu rebels near Nyabiondo. The administrative office of the Osso Banyungu sector where rebels were hiding was also burned to the ground. The human toll of these clashes is not yet known.
