Tshisekedi says Trump deserves Nobel prize if he ends Congo’s 30 years war

Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) President Félix Tshisekedi has linked former U.S. president Donald Trump to hopes of peace in eastern Congo. He said that if Trump helps bring an end to the insecurity that has devastated the region for more than three decades, he would personally support Trump’s candidacy for the Nobel Peace Prize.

“This war has lasted more than 30 years. If President Trump ends it today, I will be the first to vote for him to receive the Nobel Prize.”

Tshisekedi’s remark highlights both the scale of the crisis in eastern Congo — marked by armed conflict, displacement, and instability — and the need for international involvement. The conflict, which has plagued the region for more than three decades, remains one of Africa’s most protracted humanitarian emergencies.

By directly mentioning Trump, Tshisekedi underscored his openness to any credible international effort that could deliver long-awaited peace to the Congolese people. His statement also reflects the growing pressure on global leaders to intervene and help resolve the insecurity in the Great Lakes region.
