Sudanese Clubs Al Hilal Omdurman and Al Ahli SC Wad Madani Cleared to Join Rwanda Premier League

Two Sudanese football giants, Al Hilal Omdurman and Al Ahli SC Wad Madani, have officially been cleared to participate in Rwanda’s 2025/26 Primus National Football League, following their formal request to join the competition.

Reliable sources confirmed that the two clubs, both displaced by the ongoing conflict in Sudan, sought permission to play in Rwanda’s top-tier league — a request that has since been approved.

According to officials familiar with the development, preparations are already underway to integrate the two teams into the league fixtures.

They are expected to begin competing by Matchday 5, even though the season, which kicked off on September 12, 2025, is currently on Matchday 4. Both clubs will complete the first round of fixtures without carrying any match backlogs.

Since April 2023, Sudan’s domestic football competitions have been suspended due to civil war, forcing several teams to seek temporary bases abroad.

Al-Merrikh SC, another major Sudanese club, has been training in Rwanda and was recently allowed to compete in the Libyan Premier League this season.

The decision to welcome Al Hilal Omdurman and Al Ahli SC Wad Madani underscores Rwanda’s growing reputation as a stable and supportive host for regional sports amid conflict disruptions in neighboring countries.
