According to an official RDF statement, Sgt Sadiki, who serves as a driver in the army, accidentally crossed the Gasenyi–Nemba border into Burundian territory, where he was arrested by local police. He is currently being held at Kirundo Police Station in Busoni commune, Butanyera Province.

RDF described the incident as a “common border mishap” and expressed regret over what it termed an unfortunate occurrence. The army further confirmed that diplomatic engagement with the Burundian government is underway to secure the soldier’s release.
