Kagame in Guinea for Doumbouya’s inauguration

President Paul Kagame on Friday, January 16, arrived in Guinea’s capital Conakry, where he will attend the swearing-in ceremony of the West African country’s President-elect Mamady Doumbouya on Saturday.

Up on arrival in Conakry, Kagame was received by Guinean Prime Minister Amadou Oury Bah.

Doumbouya, 41, was declared as the winner of the December 28 presidential elections with 86.72 per cent of the votes.

Kagame congratulated him and said he looked forward to deeper relations with Guinea.

The two leaders last met in November 2025, when Kagame visited the West African country for the launch of Simandou Iron Ore Project, the world's largest ongoing mining project.

Doumbouya had also visited Rwanda in early May. During the three-day visit he met Kagame as well as the Guinean community in Rwanda.

Doumbouya served as interim president since the deposition of Alpha Conde in 2021.
