DRC: a plane crashes at Kolwezi airport, about twenty passengers whose Minister Louis Watum escapes unscathed
A plane carrying the delegation of the Minister of Mines, Louis Watum Kabamba, crashed on Monday, November 17, at Kolwezi airport, in the province of Lualaba.
The aircraft, coming from Kinshasa, finished its off-track race before igniting, arousing deep concern among witnesses. The minister and all members of his delegation were able to evacuate the aircraft in time. According to his communications adviser, Isaac Nyembo, no one injured is to be deplored, although all the luggage has remained on board.
“We are a delegation of about twenty people in the rest of the Minister of Mines from Kinshasa. The plane carrying us missed the landing and caught fire. We all came out before the fire spread over the plane,” Isaac Nyembo, communications officer for the Minister of Mines, told Actualité.cd.
Minister Watum Kabamba was on his way to Kolwezi to closely follow the deadly accident at the Kalondo mining site near the Mulondo village in Mutshatsha territory, where more than 40 diggers lost their lives.
