Transport fares remain unchanged as diesel price increases

Motorists will continue paying Rwf2,938 per litre of petrol, while the price of diesel is set to increase to Rwf2,927 per litre under new fuel prices announced by the Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Authority (RURA).

The revised retail prices will take effect on Saturday, June 6, at 6 a.m.

Under the new tariff, petrol remains unchanged at Rwf2,938 per litre, while diesel increases by Rwf722 from Rwf2,205 per litre, the price that has been maintained since April 17.

In a communiqué issued on Friday, RURA said the adjustments reflect developments in international petroleum markets and supply conditions, while also taking into account government measures aimed at safeguarding fuel supply and limiting the impact on the economy and consumers.

The regulator noted that government interventions have helped moderate the increase in pump prices, keeping them below levels that would have resulted from market conditions alone.

Transport fares remain constant

According to RURA, the support measures are intended to cushion transport and freight services from rising fuel costs and reduce broader economic impacts.

Despite the increase in diesel prices, public transport fares will remain unchanged. The current fare rates were announced in early April.

RURA said government support measures will continue to assist public transport operators in managing higher fuel costs and ensuring affordable transport services for commuters.

The latest revision comes nearly two months after the April 17 adjustment, when petrol prices rose significantly from Rwf2,303 to Rwf2,938 per litre, while diesel prices were maintained at Rwf2,205 per litre to support public transport and the movement of goods.
