Rwandan Actor Ncuti Gatwa Joins the Cast of Warner Bros’ Upcoming Animated Film ‘Bad Fairies’

Rwandan-born British actor Ncuti Gatwa has joined the voice cast of Bad Fairies, an upcoming animated film produced by Warner Bros. Animation in collaboration with Locksmith Animation.

Gatwa’s inclusion in the project follows the announcement of actress Cynthia Erivo, who will voice the character Jayne Staplegun in the film. However, the specific role Gatwa will play has not yet been revealed.

Bad Fairies marks the first film produced under the new partnership between Warner Bros. and Locksmith Animation. The movie is currently in production in London and is scheduled for theatrical release on May 21, 2027.

The screenplay was written by Deborah Frances-White, and the film is being directed by Megan Nicole Dong alongside Olivier Staphylas. Music for the film will feature songs written by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss, the award-winning creators of Six: The Musical. Renowned producer Isabella “Machine” Summers of Florence + The Machine is composing and producing the film’s score, with Ian Eisendrath serving as Executive Music Producer.

Born in Kigali, Rwanda, on October 15, 1992, Ncuti Gatwa rose to international fame through his breakout role in Netflix’s Sex Education, which premiered in 2019.

Gatwa and his family relocated to Scotland during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, where he grew up and later pursued acting.

Over the years, Gatwa has starred in several acclaimed productions, including Barbie, Masters of the Air, Doctor Who (BBC), and The Roses. His growing global recognition continues to position him among the most promising actors of his generation, both in live-action and animated cinema.
