Rwanda Drops Four Places in Latest FIFA World Rankings

Rwanda’s national football team, Amavubi, has slipped four places in the latest FIFA world rankings, released on Thursday, October 17, 2025, now standing at 131st globally.
The drop follows the team’s two consecutive losses during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers — a 1–0 defeat to Benin at Kigali’s Amahoro Stadium and a 3–0 loss to South Africa’s Bafana Bafana in Johannesburg. As a result, Rwanda’s total points decreased to 1,133.5, returning the team to its lowest position since July 2024.
At the top of the global standings, Spain reclaimed first place with 1,875.37 points, followed closely by Argentina with 1,870.32. France, England, and Portugal complete the top five.
Within Africa, the top five teams are:
-
Morocco (12th globally), down two spots,
-
Senegal (18th), unchanged,
-
Egypt (32nd), up three places,
-
Algeria (35th), up three places, and
-
Nigeria (41st), up four.
Among Rwanda’s regional neighbors, the Democratic Republic of Congo remains 60th, Uganda dropped one place to 83rd, Tanzania stayed 107th, Kenya rose two places to 109th, while Burundi fell four places to 145th.
Globally, Faroe Islands gained the most points (+37.95), while Niger made the biggest climb, up nine places to 108th. Greece and Sweden were among the biggest losers, each dropping eight places and 27.63 points respectively.
The next FIFA World Ranking update is scheduled for November 21, 2025.
