Dr Paluku Musumba dies in Kenya after armed attack in Goma

Dr Paluku Musumba Obadi, the head of the Karisimbi Health Zone in Goma city, has died in Kenya, weeks after he was shot multiple times by unidentified armed men at his home.
The fatal attack occurred on the night of May 26, 2025, when gunmen broke into his residence and opened fire, leaving him with severe injuries to his arms, back, and left leg. He was rushed to CBCA Virunga Hospital for emergency care before being transferred to CBCA Ndosho Hospital, where he underwent surgery.
Due to the critical nature of his injuries, Dr Musumba was later airlifted to Nairobi for advanced treatment. However, despite all efforts by medical teams in Kenya, he succumbed to his wounds.
A family member expressed deep sorrow over his passing, saying:
“It is such a heartbreaking loss to lose our brother. The doctors tried everything they could, but his injuries were too severe.”
The assassination of Dr Musumba follows another tragic incident in April this year when his driver, Kabuyaya Malimukono Jespère, and his son, Tsongo Malimingi Amos, were both killed by unidentified gunmen on April 14.
Although the AFC/M23 coalition currently controls Goma and has heightened security in the city, cases of targeted killings and armed robbery continue to terrorize residents. Local authorities have urged citizens to provide information about suspicious individuals and to avoid shielding anyone illegally possessing weapons, warning that such criminals remain a serious threat to public safety.
