Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Agree to Strengthen Military Cooperation
Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Monday hosted Félix Antoine Tshisekedi and his delegation for bilateral talks that concluded with both countries agreeing to deepen and expand cooperation across several strategic sectors.
According to statements released by both sides, Uganda and Democratic Republic of the Congo agreed to strengthen collaboration in energy, infrastructure, security, and trade.
In a message posted on his X account, President Museveni said he held “productive discussions” with Tshisekedi on regional security, commerce, infrastructure development, and petroleum cooperation.
Among the key commitments reached during the talks was the decision to reinforce joint border security management through continued implementation of the military operation known as Operation Shujaa, which the two countries have conducted together for more than four years.
President Tshisekedi praised Museveni for what he described as constructive discussions focused largely on military cooperation and regional stability.
“Your Excellency President, I would like to thank you for the substance of our discussions today, which allowed us to review cooperation between our armed forces, because as you know very well, we share a special responsibility for security and stability across the Great Lakes region,” Tshisekedi said.
He added that the armed forces and security institutions of both countries continue to work closely through coordinated regional efforts.
