Kagame meets with Itorero Indangamirwa participants
President Paul Kagame on Tuesday, July 28, met with the 16th cohort of the Itorero Indangamirwa civic education programme at the Rwanda Defence Force Combat Training Centre (CTC) in Gabiro, Gatsibo District.
The meeting, held under the Meet The President programme, will allow hundreds of participants to engage with the Head of State, receive guidance that complements their month-long training, and ask him questions on issues of interest.
The Itorero programme began on July 1 and will conclude on August 10, bringing together 769 young people aged between 18 and 23.
Participants represent diverse backgrounds, including Rwandans living or studying abroad, students from international secondary schools, university students, and top-performing graduates of the 13th Inkomezabigwi Urugerero National Service Programme.
According to the Ministry of National Unity and Civic Engagement, this is the largest Indangamirwa cohort since the programme was launched. Previous editions each hosted fewer than 500 participants.
This year's cohort includes 137 young Rwandans from abroad, 66 of whom are girls.
Throughout the programme, participants have taken part in lectures and discussions led by senior government officials and security officers, focusing on civic values, leadership, patriotism and national development.
They have also visited key historical sites, including the Kiziguro Genocide Memorial and the Mulindi Liberation Museum in Gicumbi District, to deepen their understanding of Rwanda's history and the country's liberation journey.
