Intelligence Chief Among Officials Replaced in AFC/M23 Reshuffle
New information emerging from the AFC/M23 coalition indicates that the group has carried out significant changes within its military command and administrative structures, including the replacement of its intelligence chief.
According to reports, a high-level meeting held last week approved a series of appointments affecting several key positions within the movement. The group’s intelligence department, previously headed by Colonel John Imani Nzenze, has reportedly been placed under new leadership.
Colonel Kamasa Ndakize Welcome has been appointed to replace Nzenze, who has since been reassigned to operations in the Walikale area.
Before the appointment, Col. Kamasa served as the military spokesperson of the MRDP-Twirwaneho armed group, which has in recent months strengthened its alliance with AFC/M23.
Sources further indicate that the reshuffle also involved changes in the command of various military divisions operating across eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
The first division, responsible for operations in the northern areas of Lubero, Rutshuru and Nyiragongo territories, has reportedly been placed under the command of Brigadier General Boduin Ngaruye.
Meanwhile, the second division operating in Masisi territory has been assigned to Brigadier General Justin Gacheri Musanga.
The third division has reportedly been entrusted to Brigadier General Byamungu, while military operations in South Kivu and Minembwe have been placed under the command of Brigadier General Charles Sematama, who previously served as the military commander of Twirwaneho.
