AFC/M23 Alleges Kinshasa Forces Used Kamikaze Drones in Attacks
The AFC/M23 coalition has accused forces allied to the government of the Democratic Republic of Congo of carrying out what it described as violent attacks against civilian-populated areas in eastern DR Congo on Wednesday, May 13, 2026.
In a statement released by the movement, AFC/M23 alleged that from early morning until evening, coalition forces loyal to the Kinshasa government launched military operations targeting the areas of Kalingi, Bidegu, and surrounding locations.
The group claimed the attacks involved ground troops, heavy artillery, and KT-6 kamikaze drones.
According to the statement, the attacks resulted in civilian casualties, mass displacement of residents, and destruction of homes and property.
AFC/M23 further accused the Kinshasa government of continuing what it called a pattern of violating agreements and commitments, arguing that the Congolese authorities act with “impunity” due to what the movement described as silence and support from parts of the international community.
The armed group also alleged that the lack of accountability has contributed to continued shelling, killings, and violence affecting civilians across eastern DR Congo.
Independent verification of the claims and casualty figures was not immediately available.
