Minister Olivier Nduhungirehe joins Rwandans in Australia to celebrate Umuganura
Rwanda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Amb. Olivier Nduhungirehe, joined Rwandans living in Australia in celebrating Umuganura, in an event held in Queensland on Saturday, August 16, 2025.
The celebration brought together Rwandans from different backgrounds residing in Australia and served as an opportunity for exchange and togetherness, aimed at strengthening ties between the diaspora and their homeland,

In his remarks, Nduhungirehe commended the Rwandan community in Australia for their continued commitment to preserving their culture, urging them to remain united and to actively contribute to the development of their country. He said: “Umuganura is not only about sharing, it is also a time to reflect on past achievements, to be grateful for what we have accomplished, and to think about how we can work together to achieve even greater progress.”He further confirmed that Rwanda plans to establish an embassy in Australia soon
He also highlighted Rwanda’s diverse investment opportunities, encouraging investors and other capable individuals present to consider investing in the country and thereby contribute to its development.
Minister Nduhungirehe further announced that consultations would be made to explore the possibility of organizing Rwanda Day in Australia—a major event that brings together Rwandans abroad with their country, with the purpose of sharing Rwanda’s development vision.
Umuganura, often referred to as Rwanda’s thanksgiving day, is a cultural celebration of sharing the fruits of one’s work. It is regarded as a moment to give thanks to God and the nation, while also strengthening unity and solidarity among Rwandans both at home and abroad.
