Fighting resumed on Wednesday morning between AFC/M23 rebels and Wazalendo militiamen from the Coalition of Movements for Change (CMC) in Kalonge, Banamulema (Kisimba group), in Walikale territory, North Kivu.
According to local sources, it was the wazalendo who launched the offensive in the village of Ngerere, in the locality of Iremya (Ikobo group), a village that was spent last Monday in the hands of AFC/M23. Our sources in the area indicate that this village and the strategic hill of Rushihe located between Katobo and Mbukuru, in the Kisimba group were recovered by the wazalendo on Wednesday morning, 28 May.
This information is confirmed by administrative and security sources in Walikale, who add that the fighting is approaching Rusamambu, where detonations of heavy and light weapons are heard about 4 kilometres from this agglomeration.
According to local notability, the wazalendo attempted to recover the villages of Rusamambu, Bukumbirwa, Kishonjia and Kilambo, from the Ikobo group, under controls by AFC/M23 rebels.
As a reminder, the inhabitants of these villages are in the bush, where they live in precarious humanitarian conditions.
