Rwanda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Olivier Nduhungirehe, alongside the Minister of State in charge of Regional Cooperation, Gen (Rtd) James Kabarebe, welcomed the United Kingdom’s Special Envoy to the Great Lakes Region, Tiffany Sadler, in Kigali on Monday.
Sadler’s visit marks her second official trip to Rwanda since her appointment in September 2024. Her visit comes amid renewed diplomatic engagement between Rwanda and the United Kingdom, as well as a broader focus on regional stability in the Great Lakes.
The discussions between Sadler and Rwandan officials centered on strengthening the bilateral relationship between Rwanda and the UK and addressing pressing regional issues, including security, development, and cooperation among Great Lakes countries.
“I am delighted to be back in Rwanda. It is always an honor to engage with partners committed to peace and progress in the region,” said Sadler. Prior to arriving in Kigali, she held similar meetings in Kampala, Uganda, and Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo.
During her stay in Rwanda, Sadler is expected to meet with a wide range of stakeholders, including senior government officials, representatives of civil society organizations, and business leaders. Key topics on the agenda include the UK’s role in promoting sustainable development, peacebuilding initiatives, and long-term cooperation in sectors such as education.
Her itinerary also includes visits to several projects funded through Rwanda–UK partnerships, showcasing collaboration in education and community development.
Sadler’s diplomatic mission underscores the UK’s continued commitment to engaging constructively with East African nations and supporting regional peace and prosperity.
