The airport and air base had been seized by the Rapid Support Forces on Saturday, and they even made movies showing their forces with Egyptian officers who had been arrested.

However, 24 hours later, the Sudanese armed forces managed to reclaim the air base from the Rapid Support Forces, according to a military official who spoke to Sudan Tribune

According to the military officer, “the army had dealt a severe blow to the rebellious militia forces in terms of military equipment.” He also revealed that at than a hundred members of the Rapid Support had been detained.

During the attack on the RSF forces in Merowe on Sunday afternoon, the paramilitary group published a video in which a militia military claimed to have complete control over the airport.

The link between the regular army and the paramilitary force proved irreversible once the RSF was deployed in the city in northern Sudan.

Several military pilots of the Egyptian army who had been arrested on Saturday were taken by the RSF troops as they retreated from Meroe, according to the military source.

The Sudanese and Egyptian armies confirmed their presence in Merowe, while it is uncertain how many Egyptian military soldiers there are in total.

The military further stated that the army is currently following more than 100 RSF vehicles that withdrew from the airport.
