Must read

Seattle police are investigating a Rainier Beach shooting that left five people injured Friday evening.

Seattle police first tweeted about the shooting at 9:22 p.m. The incident occurred in the 9200 block of Rainier Avenue S., according to Seattle police. Seattle Police Deparment (SPD) Chief Adrian Diaz told KOMO News that the shooting initially began in the parking lot of what is formerly known as “King Donuts.”

A community outreach meeting was taking place close to where the shooting occurred, according to police

“Honestly, this is really disturbing when you have victims who’re trying to do an outreach effort, trying to help people out and get people on the right path and this is what they get hit with,” said Diaz.

Two of the five victims were in critical condition, while the other three were reported as stable, according to Diaz. Four of the victims were taken to Harborview Medical Center, according to police.

Diaz also said that numerous shell casings were found at the scene.

The incident took place near a Safeway grocery store that was the location of a shooting months prior. Mayor Bruce Harrell made his way to the scene and provided comment to KOMO News:

What you have tonight in the light of this tragedy is, you have these fine community leaders here. People who come from this community, protecting the community and are literally putting their lives on the line. Too many guns are in the wrong places and in the wrong hands. This is a critical part of the city, and one of the most diverse areas in the country and it’s our responsibility to protect it
