Rwandan women aim to defeat Uganda in the Paris 2024 Games qualifying match

Must read

The upcoming match between Rwanda and Uganda at Kigali Pelé Stadium, scheduled for 3pm, will witness the intense clash of the women’s teams in the second leg of the 2024 Olympic Games women’s football qualifier.

Rwanda will be determined to eliminate Uganda and advance to the next round after the first leg ended in an exhilarating 3-3 draw at the same venue, where both teams played exceptionally well. Rwanda, playing in front of their passionate home supporters, aims to secure a victory and progress further, setting up a showdown with Cameroon.

To achieve success, Rwanda will heavily rely on their skilled goalkeeper, Angeline Ndakimana, who made remarkable saves in the previous match. Although she sustained an injury and was substituted by Diane Uwamahoro, Grace Nyinawumuntu is expected to return in time and guard the goal diligently. On the other hand, Uganda boasts a formidable lineup on paper, with players like Najemba Fauzia, Nasuna Hafisah, and Komuntale Sumaya causing headaches for defenders. Rwanda, known for their clinical finishing despite creating fewer chances, may consider making some tactical changes to enhance their attacking prowess.

Zawadi Usanase, who made an impact in the first leg as a substitute by scoring a goal, might secure a starting position in the front line. In addition, Rwanda could adopt a three-woman attack formation, consisting of Liberée Nibagwire, Florence Imanizabayo, and Zawadi Usanase, while Dorothée Mukeshimana could operate as a creative playmaker just behind them. For Uganda, Inkwaput Fazila is likely to lead the attack, supported by Nankya Shadia and Nantongo Aisha as the central defenders, providing defensive stability.

The initial encounter showcased fantastic football, remarkable teamwork, outstanding individual performances, and superb goals from both sides. It is anticipated that Sunday’s game will deliver a similar level of excitement and entertainment.
