Rwanda to face Djibouti in 2025 CHAN qualifiers

Must read

Rwanda has been drawn to face Djibouti in the first qualifying round of the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN), scheduled to take place in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania from February 1-28, 2025.

The Amavubi, who last participated in the CHAN tournament in 2020 in Cameroon—where they reached the quarterfinals—will be eager to secure a spot in the upcoming edition after missing out on the 2022 tournament held in Algeria. The CHAN competition is unique as it features only players from domestic leagues across Africa.

The first leg of the qualifier will take place in Djibouti City between October 25-27, with the return leg scheduled for Kigali between November 1-3. The winner of this preliminary round will advance to face either South Sudan or Kenya in December, with the prize being a ticket to the CHAN 2025 finals.

Rwanda has participated in the CHAN tournament four times since its inception, with their best performances coming in 2016, when the country hosted the tournament, and in 2020, where they reached the quarterfinals on both occasions.

Full draw for CECAFA region:

  • Burundi vs Somalia
  • Ethiopia vs Eritrea
  • Sudan vs Tanzania
  • South Sudan vs Kenya
  • Djibouti vs Rwanda

Rwanda will be aiming to build on their strong CHAN history and make a return to the continental stage.
