In a major move to strengthen international cooperation and improve air connectivity, the Cabinet Meeting chaired by President Paul Kagame on Monday approved bilateral air services agreements between the Government of Rwanda and 12 countries.
The agreements were signed with Eswatini, Guinea, Liberia, Malawi, Mali, Zimbabwe, Georgia, France, Poland, Oman, Suriname, and Canada.
These air services agreements allow for the operation of international air transport services between Rwanda and the respective countries, facilitating the movement of passengers and cargo. They are expected to ease cross-border travel, streamline air cargo services, and promote the exchange of goods and services. In turn, the move is anticipated to enhance trade ties and boost tourism between Rwanda and its international partners.
In addition to air transport agreements, the Cabinet discussed strategic efforts to stimulate private sector investment, increase exports, and improve the efficiency of public investments.
The government also adopted a new information-sharing policy aimed at creating a unified and legally compliant framework for secure information exchange among public institutions.
The Cabinet approved a report assessing Rwanda’s implementation of international human rights treaties and adopted a ministerial order related to child protection. The new regulation outlines state responsibilities in protecting children and the legal framework allowing foreign nationals to adopt Rwandan children.
Minister of Agriculture and Animal Resources also informed the Cabinet about the upcoming 18th National Agriculture Exhibition, scheduled to take place at Mulindi, Kigali, from June 18 to 27, 2025.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Trade and Industry announced that Rwanda will host the 2025 Annual Meeting of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), set to take place in Kigali from October 6 to 10.
