President Paul Kagame meets Emir of Qatar to strengthen bilateral ties

On the morning of Wednesday, February 12, 2025, President Paul Kagame, currently in Doha, was received by the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. The two leaders discussed the relationship between Rwanda and Qatar, exploring various sectors and avenues for enhanced cooperation.

President Kagame arrived in Doha on the evening of February 11, 2025, for an official visit. He was welcomed at Hamad International Airport by Dr. Ahmad bin Hassan Al-Hammadi, the Secretary-General of Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Rwanda and Qatar share strong diplomatic ties and collaborate in key areas such as security, investment promotion, economic and trade partnerships, technology, tourism, and anti-corruption efforts.

Qatar is also actively involved in Rwanda’s infrastructure development, particularly in the transport sector. Notably, Qatar Airways holds a 60% stake in the Bugesera International Airport project.

In January 2025, President Kagame highlighted significant progress in agreements signed between Rwanda and Qatar, including the development of Bugesera International Airport and Qatar Airways’ acquisition of a 49% stake in RwandAir. He expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far.
