In a heartfelt end-of-year message, President Paul Kagame, who also serves as the Commander-in-Chief of Rwanda’s defence and security forces, lauded the patriotism, discipline, and innovation exhibited by the country’s armed forces throughout 2024.
Released on Monday, December 30, the message highlighted the dedication and professionalism of Rwanda’s defence and security personnel, who the President praised for upholding the nation’s values and security under challenging circumstances both domestically and internationally.
“This year has reinforced our resilience in many ways, and your efforts have ensured that Rwanda remains a beacon of peace, stability, and progress in the region and beyond,” Kagame said.
The President took a moment to reflect on the year’s significant milestones, noting the celebration of 30 years since Rwanda’s liberation and 20 years of active participation in peacekeeping missions worldwide. These achievements, he said, underscore Rwanda’s commitment to peace and prosperity at home while contributing meaningfully to global security.
Kagame emphasized the invaluable role of the defence and security forces in safeguarding Rwanda’s national interests and the well-being of its citizens. He commended their ability to meet modern security challenges with the highest standards of patriotism, teamwork, and discipline.
“You have also exemplified the highest standards of patriotism, teamwork, discipline and innovation in addressing modern security challenges,” he said.
Looking ahead to 2025, the President urged the defence and security forces to maintain their momentum and uphold the principles of integrity and accountability that define them. He stressed the need for vigilance and adaptability to counter evolving threats while remaining focused on a shared vision of a secure and united Rwanda.
“To the mourning families who have lost loved ones in service, I honour your sacrifice and assure you that we will always stand by your side and that the sacrifices shall never be in vain,” Kagame said, extending condolences to bereaved families.
President Kagame concluded his address with warm wishes for the festive season, expressing gratitude to the men and women in uniform for their dedication.
“On behalf of the Rwandan people, the government, and my own family, I extend my warmest wishes to you and your families for a joyful festive season and a successful year ahead. May you continue to serve with honour and may your sacrifices always be recognised and rewarded,” he said.
As Rwanda closes a significant year marked by historical celebrations and global contributions, the President’s message reinforces the importance of unity, discipline, and resilience in shaping the nation’s future.
