The Metropolitan of Believers Eastern Church generously donated 1839 Mutuelle de Santé to the residents of Musanze. This act was undertaken as part of their efforts to improve the living conditions of the community.
Through ‘Citizen Assemblies’ held on Tuesday, the Indian-based church provided support to the local residents of Kabuzungu Cell in Musanze Sector by granting them Mutuelle de Santé coverage.
During the assembly, approximately 1839 individuals, many of whom belonged to vulnerable families, expressed their appreciation for the initiative due to their financial instability. Acquiring community-based health insurance like Mutuelle de Santé had been challenging for most residents, especially since they were primarily small-scale farmers with limited land resources.
Beneficiaries of this charitable act, who spoke to media, expressed gratitude for the support and hoped that it would safeguard their families in the coming years, specifically from 2203 to 2224.
Bernadette Nzamukosha, among the many families struggling to obtain Mutuelle de Santé, expressed her optimism, stating, “This insurance is a privilege that will change our lives. My family and I will be secure with Mutuelle de Santé for the next year.” She wore a smile on her face as she spoke.
Théogene Nshimiyimana, an elderly individual facing difficulties in Irish potato farming and experiencing limited yields, also welcomed the Mutuelle de Santé provision. He expressed his gratitude, saying, “Obtaining Mutuelle de Santé is excellent since our harvests have been insufficient. Many thanks to the district and Believers Eastern Church.”
During the gathering, Dr. Simon Dass, responsible for the Community Transformation Project, encouraged local residents by stating, “We consider Rwanda as our family, which is why we are here in Kabazungu. By working together, we can turn this community into a paradise.”
Bishop Gee Varghesse Mor Makariose, representing the Metropolitan of Believers Eastern Church, revealed during the event that the church’s mission extended beyond spirituality. He emphasized the importance of assisting those in need, as recommended by Jesus Christ. He assured the attendees that the support would continue, with the hope of reaching more people, if permitted by God.
Axelle Kamanzi, the Vice Mayor for Musanze District in charge of Social Affairs, expressed gratitude to the church for supporting the local community with health insurance. She emphasized the significance of enabling residents to access healthcare services when they fall ill.
Official data by 2022-2023 show that 8.3 percent have not yet paid Mutuelle de Santé while 91.7 percent did so in the whole district.
