Man Utd will bid for Rasmus Hojlund ‘soon’ as hijack fear emerges

Must read

Manchester United will submit a bid for Rasmus Hojlund ‘soon’ due to fears over another club entering the race to sign him, according to Fabrizio Romano.

United have been linked with a move for the 20-year-old striker throughout the window, but now appear to be speeding up their pursuit due to late interest from the Ligue 1 champions.

Atalanta’s asking price is believed to be around €70 million, with Italian outlet Calciomercato claiming that, although the Italian club are not opposed to Hojlund leaving, they will not budge from their valuation.

That may cause an issue for United, who have a limited transfer budget this summer due to Financial Fair Play (FFP) concerns.

They have already committed in excess of £100 million to sign Mason Mount and Andre Onana, with The Athletic claiming earlier this year that their total budget would stand at £100 million.

It appears, though, that they will submit an offer for Hojlund – and it may have to be high enough to discourage other clubs from following suit.

Man Utd ‘set to bid for Hojlund’

Taking to Twitter, Romano revealed that PSG have been in talks with the striker’s representatives on several occasions this summer as they look to add quality to their attack.

PSG’s attack has been weakened this summer with the departure of Lionel Messi, and Kylian Mbappe and Hugo Ekitite are their only available centre forward options.

Romano tweeted: “Understand Manchester United will send the opening official proposal to Atalanta for Rasmus Hojlund soon.

“Man United want to avoid any hijack from Paris Saint-Germain – as PSG keep speaking to player’s camp.

“Hojlund agreed terms with United, as revealed days ago.”

While United will still be confident of landing their key target, the PSG interest could add an extra complication to proceedings – especially as both clubs will play Champions League football next season.
