Lightning Strike Kills 14, Injures 34 in Uganda

Must read

Fourteen people lost their lives, and 34 others were injured following a lightning strike that hit a group gathered for prayer in Lamwo, northern Uganda. The incident occurred on Saturday at around 5:30 p.m. as heavy rain began to fall.

The victims were aged between 9 and 21, as reported by local Ugandan media. According to the police, this lightning strike has instilled fear among residents in Lamwo and across Uganda, a country that frequently suffers lightning strikes during heavy rains.

Earlier this year, in June, three siblings were killed by lightning in Dokolo District, further underscoring the persistent threat lightning poses to the public during the rainy season.

Authorities urge citizens to continue observing safety measures, such as avoiding poorly sheltered areas and buildings with electrical installations during rainstorms. Concerns are growing that this issue may worsen as climate change intensifies rains and lightning in this region of East Africa.
