President Paul Kagame and First Lady Jeannette Kagame warmly welcomed the President of Guinea-Conakry, General Mamadi Doumbouya, and his wife Lauriane Doumbouya at their private farm in Kibugabuga, Bugesera District, on Friday, May 2, 2025.
This visit comes as part of a three-day official state visit to Rwanda by President Doumbouya, which began on Thursday, May 1. The visit aims to strengthen diplomatic relations and bilateral cooperation between Rwanda and Guinea-Conakry.
According to the Guinean Embassy in Rwanda, President Doumbouya was greeted on Thursday evening by members of the Guinean community living in Rwanda, who expressed their appreciation for his leadership and commitment to national development.
Before heading to Gabon for the swearing-in ceremony of President-elect Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema on Saturday, May 3, President Doumbouya is spending time in Kigali to reinforce the growing ties between the two nations.
This is not General Doumbouya’s first visit to Rwanda. In August 2024, he attended the inauguration ceremony of President Paul Kagame, following Kagame’s re-election to another term in office.
Rwanda and Guinea-Conakry enjoy a strong and evolving partnership. In October 2024, the two nations signed twelve cooperation agreements spanning various sectors including tourism, agriculture, energy, export promotion, economy, security, mining, culture, and the development of industrial zones.
Diplomatic relations between the two countries continue to flourish, built on mutual respect and shared goals for economic transformation. Notably, in 2016, President Kagame received Guinea’s highest national honor, the Grand Croix, in recognition of his exemplary leadership and commitment to Africa’s progress.
President Doumbouya’s current visit is seen as a reaffirmation of the historical ties and continued collaboration between Rwanda and Guinea-Conakry.
