India strikes Pakistan, tensions escalate in South Asia

Must read

India has launched air strikes on multiple locations across Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir, killing three and injuring twelve, according to Pakistan’s military.

Pakistan’s army accused India of attacking a mosque in Bahawalpur’s Ahmed East area, as well as Kotli and Muzaffarabad, branding the strikes “cowardly and shameful.”

“All of our air force jets are airborne,” said military spokesperson Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, who confirmed the attacks originated from within Indian airspace.

Chaudhry declared Pakistan will respond “at a time and place of its own choosing,” warning that India’s actions would not go unanswered.

India claimed responsibility for the assault, announcing it as “Operation Sindoor,” targeting nine sites in Pakistan without striking any military installations.

Loud explosions echoed through the mountains near Muzaffarabad after midnight, plunging the city into darkness, Reuters reported.

The strikes follow Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s threat to halt water flows across the border, further intensifying diplomatic hostilities.

In Washington, the U.S. reiterated its call for restraint, urging both nations to avoid escalation and seek a peaceful resolution.

“We continue to urge Pakistan and India to work towards long-term peace and regional stability,” said State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce.

The situation remains volatile, as fears of a wider conflict loom over South Asia.
