The individuals, a man and his girlfriend, triggered alarms when one of them began coughing during their train journey from Frankfurt.
According to local authorities, the two passengers had recently been in Rwanda, where they were involved in providing medical care to a patient infected with the Marburg virus. It is believed that the man could be a medical student, although officials confirmed that he did not show signs of a fever—one of the primary symptoms of the virus.
The pair arrived in Frankfurt on Wednesday morning, traveling from Rwanda, and boarded a train to Hamburg. During the journey, one of them began displaying symptoms, prompting concern among fellow passengers and officials. In response, the police intervened and escorted them to a hospital for immediate testing.
The situation escalated when the two individuals reportedly contacted authorities themselves after feeling unwell, adding to the precautionary measures taken by health officials and law enforcement.
Heightened Precautions Amid Marburg Fears
As a result of the scare, authorities in Hamburg implemented stringent measures at the train station, with operations temporarily paused to prevent further contact or possible exposure.
